The success in social media marketing comes from building strong and long-lasting relationships with customers over many months and years, and relaying to them the type of content and expertise that they will want to share with their friends and family. This approach will help to attract and keep loyal customers, and is an approach that is a world away from most traditional marketing efforts.
Social media is also an extremely effective tool in scoping out new customers and professional contacts, and bringing them on board to strengthen your brand image. And with time and effort, your work will show a return on investment (sales!) that traditional media is increasingly struggling to keep up with.
I hope you find the series of Social Media Marketing Tips helpful, and wish you the very best – whether you’re a complete social media novice or a savvy individual looking for some extra expert tips to drive your business onto bigger and better things.
Marketing Strategy You’ll Like and Share
Facebook is the most visited website in the world, with over one billion users, and growing. Your customers are there! By setting up a Facebook Fan Page for business, you open up a myriad of marketing possibilities. What’s more, Facebook’s domination extends onto smartphones as well as desktops, with an ever-increasing focus on mobile users and location-based marketing that businesses just can’t afford not to be a part of. Use these tips to build, brand and market your Facebook Fan Page effectively, as well as amass a following of highly engaged customers.
Create a Facebook Page, not a personal profile
This one’s important – don’t just create another personal Facebook profile, but be sure that you create a Facebook Page, which functions much more effectively for businesses. Sign up to Facebook as an individual and search ‘Create A Page’ in the bar at the top of the site, or click the ‘Create A Page’ button at the top of any existing Facebook Page, or visit https://www.facebook.com/pages/create to get started. Make sure you categorize your page correctly to make the task of finding you via a Facebook search as easy as possible.
If you’re running a personal profile as a business page, there’s a chance Facebook will shut it down without notice, so make the switch as soon as you can. If you have an existing ‘business’ (personal) profile that you want to convert to a Page, use Facebook’s ‘migrate’ tool to make the switch (and keep all of your friends/followers at the same time!). Visit the following link to get started: https://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php?migrate
Keep your Facebook Page name short and get it right first time!
If possible, try to keep your Facebook Page name short, as this will help if you go on to create Facebook ads, where the headline space in the advert (often the name of your page) is limited to just 25 characters.
You can only change the name of a Facebook Page with fewer than 200 likes, so make sure you are happy with yours very early on. If you are not happy with your Page name and it qualifies to be changed, follow these steps to change its name:
1. From the top of your Page, click Edit Page.
2. Select Update Info.
3. Change the text in the Name field and save your edits.
Note: Changing your Page’s name does not affect its username or Page address.
